Some of the highlights of the CAR report

• 92% of Internet buyers (who comprise 70 to 85% of all buyers today) found their agent on web site; of those, 63% found them through a search engine. None - 0% - found their agent through mailers, flyers, brochures, or signage.
• In 2006, 70% of buyers said they used the Net as an important part of their selection process; in 2000, 28% said they did.
• Before buyers started searching for a specific property, 86% started using the Internet as part of their process. The other 14% did after they started searching, but before they contacted an agent. The key point here...100% of buyers started looking at homes first, then agents.
• Internet buyers on average bought a home in 2.2 weeks after searching for a property with an agent, whereas traditional buyers spent an average of 7.1 weeks.
• Of the Internet buyers, 69% said response time was extremely important, and 83% of those buyers chose email as their preferred communication method with their agent. None - 0% - chose "in person".

As Mr. Parker comments in the article, the report is "unequivocal evidence that if you are not on the Internet bandwagon and if you can't be found by people searching for homes on the Internet, you are completely "missing the boat" in the real estate business."
